As CIPD Ireland we opened November highlighting the global Movember movement and the need for all us to understand key statistics around men’s health.

Established in 1999, International Men's Day highlights and focuses on positive role models and on raising greater awareness of men’s well-being.

The 'Silent Men’s Health Crisis': what this means in 2020?

This year’s International Men’s Day theme 'Better health for men and boys' provides an even greater opportunity for everyone to understand better how men and boys think and respond to challenges in their health and wellbeing.

And the day gives us all a chance to revisit this and look again at the difficult statistics that exist:

  • Globally men die 6 years younger than women
  • 3 of 4 suicides globally are men
  • Men make up 95% of those who die at work

Breaking down barriers: what we can do as employers and individuals?

Understanding and sharing the importance of International Men’s Day is a great starting point.

As an opportunity for people everywhere to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society, their families, communities and workplaces, we would encourage you to visit the International Men’s Day site to learn more about what you can do to get conversations going.

And to help you get started, or keep going, take a look at this short video to help shape some of those conversations.

As with Movember 2020, we want to hear from you

As CIPD Ireland we want to hear from you to help us build key resources, guides and other content on these incredibly important issues.

Please get in touch and let us know more about what’s been happening in your organisation on these important subjects.

And as before if it feels right for you as an individual, we would welcome hearing your stories.
